08/31/2010 Hatteras Island, North Carolina
I was vacationing down on the Outer Banks when I photographed this scene. We had an amazing 3 days of perfect beach weather prior to the threat of Hurricane Earl. It cut short my vacation but not before I managed to get at least a few workable shots. This scene is the calm before the hurricane. Everybody was scrambling and deciding whether to evacuate or not. Thankfully the hurricane only grazed the coast and the main part of it stayed out at sea.
